The start of the channel
This photograph show the development of the the river channel downstream of the source. The channel starts in an upland area and the water collects from several small springs into one, more coherent channel. The increased gradient, due to the convex slope angle, causes the water to amalgamate into one channel. Gravity then encourages it to flow downstream.
